Privacy Policy
We filter your social media feed. To do that, we send post text to our server for evaluation. We immediately discard it. We never store what you read, what gets filtered, or anything about your browsing behavior.
The only things we know about you: your email address, your subscription status, and a count of how many evaluations you've used this month.
Who we are
The Great Filter is a Chrome browser extension that intercepts social media content and filters it based on your chosen settings. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.
Contact: partnerships@cyberpolicypro.com
What we collect
We collect the minimum possible to make the product work.
- Email address — used only to create your account, send subscription receipts, and allow password reset. Never shared with third parties.
- Subscription status — whether your account is on the free tier or a paid plan. Used to determine your monthly evaluation limit.
- Monthly usage count — a single number tracking how many content evaluations you've used in the current billing period. Resets every month. The content itself is never stored — only the count.
- Session tokens — stored locally in your browser to keep you signed in. Never transmitted to third parties.
What we explicitly do not collect
These things are never stored, logged, or transmitted to us:
- The text content of any post, tweet, or message evaluated by the filter
- Filter verdicts — whether specific content was filtered or passed
- Your Transparency Report data — this lives exclusively on your device
- Which websites or social media platforms you visit
- Your browsing history, scroll behavior, or time on page
- Your IP address beyond what is technically required by standard web infrastructure
- Any demographic information
How content evaluation works
When you browse with The Great Filter active, post text is sent from your browser to our server. Our server passes it to Anthropic's Claude AI for evaluation, receives a verdict — filter or pass — and returns that verdict to your browser. The post content is then immediately discarded from our server's memory.
We do not log evaluation requests. We do not store post content in any database. We do not build profiles of what you read.
Your Transparency Report — the record of what was filtered and why — is built entirely from data stored locally on your device. We never receive it and cannot access it.
Third party services
We use a small number of third-party services to operate:
- Anthropic — post text is sent to Anthropic's API for AI evaluation. Anthropic's privacy policy governs their handling of this data. Post content sent to Anthropic is subject to their zero data retention policy for API customers.
- Supabase — stores your account information (email, subscription status, usage count). Data is stored on servers in the United States.
- Stripe — processes subscription payments. We never see or store your payment card details. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of payment data.
- Railway — hosts our API server. Standard server logs (request timestamps, HTTP status codes) may be retained for up to 7 days for operational purposes. These logs do not contain post content.
Data retention
- Account data is retained until you delete your account
- Monthly usage counts reset at the start of each billing period
- Standard server logs are retained for up to 7 days
- Post content sent for evaluation is discarded immediately after the verdict is returned — it is never written to disk
Your rights
You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by emailing us. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.
You can export or review your account data by contacting us. Since we store very little, this will be a short document.
Children
The Great Filter is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the effective date at the top and notify active users by email. Continued use of the extension after notification constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
